PhD Scholarships from University of Sussex for 2013

It was in the year of 1960s when the first wave of colleges and universities were made and among these institutions is the University of Sussex or US. The university was able to receive its own Royal Charter in August 1961 and from then on it has never missed to be on the list of high ranking schools. It is now considered as the leading research and teaching institution mainly because of its excellence in research that is even available for financially incapacitated students through its PhD scholarships. It is one of the best in UK when it comes to social sciences and arts. And for the 2013-2014 academic year, US offers its Chancellor International Research Scholarship program for deserving students.

Generally, US has already introduced 50 Chancellor’s International Scholarships for the overseas postgraduate research students. It seeks to choose the university’s inaugural cohort of 10 scholars for international research. The awards will include maintenance funding for £13,500 annually, research training backing, and tuition fees for three years.

To become eligible for these PhD scholarships, you have to determine the six interdisciplinary research themes of the university. Among them are global transformation, digital and social media, environment and health, security and social justice, culture and heritage, and mind and brain. These themes help establish the existing research strengths and set out its research identity throughout the nation and across the globe. They serve as the driver in developing the capacity generating extra income. They provide a forum strengthening collaborative type of work and permitting individual academic staff that will play a relevant role for the discussion of complex research challenges that they may not address. Students who are payers of international fee for any study field can be candidates for these grants. They are expected to be holders of a first class honors degree, a master’s degree, and a relevant postgraduate qualification. They should also exceed the English Language requirements (either TOEFL or IELTS) as covered in the prospectus of postgraduate program.

You will be considered for the PhD scholarships if you pass an application form. Note that online application is offered for free which includes the following:

  1. Submission of supporting documents such as references together with the application
  2. Online tracker updating the process of the application
  3. Availability of offer letter online to print or view right after a decision
  4. Display of CAS number online and printing of a statement with the required visa
  5. Eligible students’ entitlement for submission of housing application through the Internet.

Applications that are selected and considered for the PhD scholarships are also expected to provide backing to the international efforts of the university. Such efforts may cover ambassadorial or promotional activities, allotment of as much as six hours every week but should not exceed 180 hours in any academic year, and international partnership development.

Mark it in your calendar that PhD scholarship applications should be completed not beyond March 31, 2013 and the results will only be available not later than on June 1, 2013.
