PhD Scholarships –Victoria University of Wellington

The university offers PhD scholarships for student who are brilliant in their academics.
For Current academic year (2012-13) University offers 105 PhD scholarships* in Architecture and Design, Commerce and Administration, Education, Computer Science, Engineering, Arts, Music, Law and Science. Students who wish to pursue their PhD with the University can apply through their online application form. The university holds a respectable position in research society. It offers a wide range of subject for the doctoral degree program. The student must possess first class or upper second class honors bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree with first class honors. All the students who are eligible to apply for the PhD program can also apply for the PhD scholarships. The university does not require a research proposal at the time of applying for the research program. An expression of research interest is required. There is no separate form for the scholarship and students are required to indicate their funding preference in the same form. The students have to submit their transcripts and references along with the application form and expression of research interest.
The University of Wellington offers Victoria Doctoral Scholarships. These PhD scholarships were initiated by the University to encourage the students for research. The basis of awarding these scholarships is academic excellence and is open to all the students who are applying for admission into the PhD program in any subject. The students who are selected for the scholarship are expected to spend 150 hours of academic life in the University in which they will undertake teaching at the University. They are required to contribute to the University in the form of teaching, assistantship, laboratory demonstrator, tutor or teaching assistant. This contribution will help the students to build a relationship with the university and will also help them in gaining experience in the field of teaching.
The current PhD scholarship program is open for graduates from any recognized University within or outside New Zealand. The University intakes students for PhD in three rounds. The deadlines for the application are 1st March, 1st July and 1st November. The scholarships are awarded to students who are full-time scholar in the University. There are 35 PhD scholarship which covers the stipend of $23500 and course fee for a year. The scholarships will be awarded for three years from the date of commencement of the course. The University Research Scholarships Committee decides the students who will be awarded with the scholarships. The successful candidates will be informed six weeks after the closing date about their scholarship status. The students awarded with the scholarship are also allowed to take part-time employment with the permission of their advisors.
