PhD Scholarships-Aberystwyth University
Aberystwyth University has been imparting education to the students for more than 100 years. It is one of the leading universities of Wales and was the first college to take female students. From then till now it has been contributing significantly to the education of women. Now the University has 17 different departments and research has become an integral part of the University. According to the Research Assessment Exercise in 2008, the Aberystwyth University is the leading college in research in Wales and is in the list of top colleges in UK. The researches carried out in all the departments were termed as world class. The university helps its students financially by offering a number of PhD scholarships.
There are a number of PhD scholarships available in different departments. The scholarships are worth up to 18000GBP annually and are given for three years for full-time PhD programs. There are overseas PhD scholarships program within the Department of Computer Science which covers the difference in full-time overseas student fees and the full time UK/EU student. These are available only for the full-time PhD scholars and do not cover the living expenses of the candidates. The total amount of the overseas scholarship based on the current fee for overseas student will amount to 7950GBP. The candidates who are successful will have to pay the full-time student fee for the duration of the scholarships which was around 3000GBP for the year 2011.

The eligibility criteria for awarding the PhD scholarship program is that the students must possess first class or upper second class degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or physical sciences.
The candidates must submit their PhD application form first before applying for the scholarships. Along with the application form the candidate must submit a research proposal of 1000 words and academic certificates. There is no separate application form for scholarships but students must indicate their funding requirement in the application form. The panel will select the candidates by early June and the scholarship will be awarded on the basis of their academic excellence and the proposal submitted by them along with application form. Their research proposal must show potential and their interest to contribute to a world-class research.
There are other PhD scholarships also available to help the students. The doctoral career development scholarship scheme covers the tuition fee, maintenance fee and travel grant and the candidates can also undertake other duties like teaching, editorial work and additional research work. This will provide them with experience together with their research training programs. Different departments have different deadlines for the candidates to apply for this scholarship. Students who wish to study History and Celtic studies can also apply for Block Grant partnership scholarship programs in the year 2013. The number of the scholarships is not disclosed and is linked to thematic areas of research.
