Online PhD UK – University of Nottingham

Today our blog of online PhD UK will be exploring possibility of a split-site PhD degree program from a UK based university. The University of Nottingham’s first school was opened in 1881. It moved to its’ present site, the main campus, in 1928 when it outgrew the original facilities. During World War Two Nottingham allowed its’ lawns to be used to grow produce to assist the war effort. Currently it sports various campuses including one in China and one in Malaysia. The University has graduated a number of rather famous individuals, best known of which is DH Lawrence.
The University offers two routes to PhD students, a traditional research based path and a unique split-site program that takes place in either Malaysia or China, as well as at the Nottingham campus. For the pharmacy research PhD program the first two years of your PhD studies will be spent in Malaysia, and the final year will be spent at Nottingham.
The school also provides a split-site PhD degree program in Education where you would spend two years at the Beijing campus and one year at Nottingham. One of the primary goals for both programs is to increase knowledge and understanding of these foreign cultures. Supervision of the research would be shared between supervisors at both locations. While these split-site programs require a full time commitment the university also offers a number of part time PhD tracks. In applying to the program you need to submit a CV, a personal statement, a 3000 word research proposal and two referral sources.
To complete a PhD the student will need to pass an oral examination (viva voce) and complete a number of research seminars. The minimum time acceptable for completion of the program is three years.
