PhD Scholarships from University of Leeds for 2014

Academic values are integral to the University of Leeds’ overall strategy and decisions in working together for the betterment of the whole campus and beyond. Accommodations, facilities, students’ union, and clubs and societies are all what it take to be in the realm of this British university. It has already received recognition as one of the giant educational institution for higher education in the whole community. In fact, it is second in the rank when it comes to the number of its applicants, which include degrees for PhD. The school is serious in its endeavor to enroll all deserving students that it offers PhD scholarships. And for the incoming session 2013-2014, it now announces the availability of its Leeds International Research Scholarships or LIRS.

LIRS are being offered to international students with high quality skills and expertise commencing their PhD research degree in any study areas or faculty at the university. Among these areas are the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Education, Social Sciences and Law, Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Take into account that the application for these PhD scholarships are closes until June 17, 2013. These scholarships cover the international fees and maintenance grant amounting to £10,000 annually. Applicants are required to apply for PhD research study so that they will receive their own Student ID number and be considered for these study grants.

Interested students for the PhD scholarships need to submit their application form together with their Student ID Number otherwise their application will be refused. The university clarifies that these study grants are only given to candidates who have the liability for the payment of their academic fees at the rate intended for full international fee. Applicants are expected to be holders of an undergraduate First Degree that is equivalent to a minimum of a First Class Honors degree in UK and belong to the top-notched students in class. Non-English speaking applicants should already be eligible for the English Language requirements of the university by the set closing date of application or should be current undergraduate or postgraduate students in their final year of study. However, the scholarships are not accessible to applicants who already received a doctoral degree or its equivalent qualification.

The university points out that the LIRS should be taken up on January 1, 2014 by research students who are studying full time PhD degree, but not by those already registered for the PhD research study. It does not provide additional allowances for research and travel costs. These PhD scholarships are expected to be made for a year in the first instance, which are also renewable for up to 2 years, but still dependent on the satisfactory progress of its academics. Applicants are also expected to be living just within distance at the university. They will be notified for the receipt of their application via an automated email.
