PhD Scholarships from the University of Sydney Australia for 2014

The University of Sydney is known for being the educational institution where everything seems to happen with the highest possible quality of education. The public Australian school prides itself to be a community of impact to the world other than just excellence in higher education. It maintains the consistency of its reputation as it ranks among the top-notch universities not just in Australia, but throughout the world. It is otherwise known as one of the sandstone universities in Australia. It even commits itself to see to it that all its students in different levels of education will excel and be of great help to the community as they graduated. It fact, it offers a number of scholarship programs to reach out and help those who are interested to pursue their academic career, but have insufficient funds. And for school year 2013-2014, the university is offering 4 kinds of PhD scholarships. These are the Australian Postgraduate Awards/University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards or APA/UPA awards, Vice-Chancellor’s Research Scholarships or VCRS, University of Sydney Merit Awards, and Alumni Scholarships.

The APA/UPA awards are offered by the Commonwealth Government to students who have showed exceptional research skill to carry out research degree at a university located in Australian. Please note that University of Sydney currently holds 347 scholarships places under Australian Postgraduate Awards.  Apart from APA, 28 UPA are also available. These PhD scholarships are intended for the assistance on the general living costs. They are offered two times annually. For the second semester of 2013, these awards are also available for students who did not enroll in the first semester. However, the postgraduate studies of the Semester 1 APA/UPA award applicants will not be taken into consideration should they commence in 2013. These applicants are required to make an application in the Semester 1 round of 2014, which is open during the later part of August 2013.

The VCRS are being offered on a yearly basis in order to make an appeal or attract students who have outstanding academic achievement record and significant research potential of undertaking full-time studies in PhD at the University of Sydney. These scholarships provide as much as $35,000 for 3.5 full time years, $5,000 annually for first year and $12,000 annually for the remainder years. They also include a maximum of $5,000 for the scholars’ relocation allowance. Take note that these study grants are accessible at any of the university’s faculty, but not transferable to the other schools. They are only available for students commencing their PhD studies.

The University of Sydney Merit Awards are intended for the top qualified APA/UPA applicants who want to continue their PhD at the university. Each of these PhD scholarships will give $5,000 annual funding for a maximum of 3.5 years in PhD degree. Higher-ranked applicants of the APA/UPA awards are eligible for these study grants, which will be given by the Postgraduate Awards Sub Committee of the Academic Board.

The Alumni Scholarships are developed based on the gathered funds from the University of Sydney alumni. There are 24 PhD scholarships available for 2013, eight in every faculty clusters of the university. Remember that a separate form of application these scholarships is not a requirement as they are awarded based on the exceptional research potential and academic excellence of the students.
