PhD Scholarships from Deakin University for 2013

Australian public higher education center Deakin University is remarkable for its student-centered culture, innovative course delivery and excellent teaching, and accessibility. It has already achieved recognition in its research success and teaching awards. It is even considered as a five star university that has world-class reputation and cutting-edge amenities and facilities to make sure that all the necessary things for all its academic programs and student assistance are met. The scholarship opportunities being offered by Deakin University in 2013 include the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships or IPRS and the Australian Postgraduate Awards/Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship or APA/DUPRS. IPRS are specifically designed for foreign students only. On the other hand, APA/DUPRS scholarships are open to both domestic and international students who are applying for in the university’s scholarship rounds.

IPRS can be accessed by international students from all countries except for those coming from New Zealand. These PhD scholarships granted to the international students who want to undertake graduate research program at the university. They are to be completed in two years for a Master’s degree in research or in three years for a doctorate degree in research. They cover health cost and tuition fees for scholarship holders and health costs for all their dependants. Applicants for these scholarships are required to have unconditional offer of place in graduate degree program for research at Deakin. They have to take note that they are available for application on April 1 and will be closed on July 31. They should also submit their filled out online application form for admission by July 31.

Both APA and DUPRS awards are accessible to international and domestic students. These awards cover a relocation allowance for as much as $1840 given to students moving from overseas or interstate to take a course at Deakin, stipend amounting to $24,653 annually, and paid maternity, parenting, and sick leave. Eligible applicants for these PhD scholarships should hold a first class honors degree or its equivalent. Applicants who commenced their degree in research should have a minimum of 12 months in full time studies or its equivalent candidature remaining. Those who already received these awards for at least six months are not eligible for these study grants. A high standard honors of its equivalent is the main criterion of these awards. The equivalent criteria may include significant experience in postgraduate research, comparable qualifications coming from the international schools, graduate diplomas or coursework Master’s degrees, research-associated prizes or awards, professional report or previous learning, refereed periodical articles, or any other evidence of research ability.

The selection criteria for these PhD scholarships is being based on research experience, project alignment with strategic priorities, supervisory experience, publications that are associated to opportunity, and also the academic merit.
