Online PhD UK – University of Keele – Distance Education PhD Program

Keele University aims to provide its students with an interdisciplinary education that prepares them for the challenges of the 21st century. Founded in 1949 as the University College of North Staffordshire, Keele is best known for pioneering the dual Honours degree in the UK, under which students can study two majors concurrently. Academic offerings within the University are organized under the Faculties of Health, Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural Sciences, as well as a Graduate School that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, through on-campus study and online PhD UK programs.
Keele’s online PhD UK program offers a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D), which is conducted using distance-learning and online modalities over four years of part-time study. It is specially designed to allow busy professionals in the education field to earn their doctoral qualifications even though they cannot spare the time to attend regular on-campus classes. Throughout the duration of the course, students are supervised by tutors and advisers through e-supported learning techniques such as e-mail and web-based discussions on online forums and workshops.
Prior to beginning the thesis, doctoral candidates will have to study six taught units with five associated formative assignments, one of which must be an Organisational Work Ethnography (OWE) assignment, for the first two years. This is followed by the preparation of the doctoral thesis in years three and four. Course units will be delivered through one to two-day residential seminars and workshops, which will give students the opportunity to discuss their thesis with doctoral advisers.
Candidates for the Ed.D online PhD UK program must hold at least a Master’s degree or its equivalent in the general field of education, or have the equivalent work experience in a relevant field.
