Online PhD Degree Programs-University of Ballarat

The University of Ballarat in Victoria can trace its history back to Australia’s famous gold rush of the 1850s, when the School of Mines and Industries was founded in 1870, offering both higher education and technical courses. In the 1960s, the school split into two institutions: the School of Mines offering technical programs while the Ballarat Institute of Advanced Education (later the Ballarat College of Advanced Education) offered tertiary education. The two schools merged in 1994 to form the University of Ballarat.
Ballarat has six campuses, including two in Ballarat proper, as well as a Technology Park that facilitates the development of technology-based companies. The University offers a wide range of academic programs, from undergraduate and graduate, including online PhD degree programs, as well as technical courses. As of 2008, enrollment has reached nearly 26,000 students, of which more than half were in tertiary education courses while the remainder were Technical and Further Education (TAFE) students.
The University of Ballarat’s online PhD degree programs offer a degree for Doctor of Philosophy by Publication. If the doctorate thesis incorporates publications, these must be based on research undertaken by the candidate during the period of candidature; the candidate is also encouraged to choose journals in which articles undergo a rigorous peer-review process.
The structure of the finished thesis to be submitted under online PhD degree programs by publication should be integrated as ‘stand-alone’ chapters and the work still needs to read as a coherent whole. Additional unpublished articles may also be included as long as the status of the work is clarified for the thesis examiner.
