The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) is considered one of the top five internationalized universities according to the THES – QS World University Rankings. Founded by the philanthropist Hon. Furthermore, RMIT is a founding member of the Australian Technology Network and the Global U8 Consortium.
RMIT also offers online PhD Degree programs. A Professional Doctorate in Fine Art (DFA) is available, and is designed for visual artists who already possess a high level of professional experience. The goal of this online PhD Degree program is to extend the capacity of performance of students in a chosen Fine Art Studio. If taken full-time, the degree can be completed in three years. Part-time students may finish the program in eight years time.
To be admitted to the program, an applicant must be an established practitioner who has a significant exhibition and research record. A Master of Fine Art of Honors degree is also required. The online PhD Degree program includes workshops, lectures, presentations and seminars. General reading and research of significant literature in the field, as well as supervised professional practice, will be required.
RMIT designed the program to enable students to investigate and engage in analytical practice, enhance professional competence, promote understanding of advanced research methodologies, and assist in the development of an informed approach to critical appraisal of creative practice within a contemporary cultural context.
