Online PhD Degree Programs – Drew University

While Drew University began life as the Drew Theological Seminary in 1867, it is no faith-based educational institution. Despite its continued affiliation with the United Methodist Church, it makes no religious demands on its student body. The University consists of the College of Liberal Arts, the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies and the Drew Theological School. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in 29 disciplines while the graduate and theological schools offer Master’s and Doctorate degrees, including online PhD degree programs.
Drew University offers online PhD degree programs for Global/Online Doctor of Ministry (D.Min). This D.Min program is designed for full-time ministers who want to improve their skills and renew their approach to the ministry without having to attend on-campus classes. The first part of the program features coursework spread out over three semesters plus an intensive three week summer session requiring residency on-campus; this is followed by four semesters of supervised research and project design for a ministry project and to write a doctoral thesis of publishable quality about the project. The doctoral candidate is also required to attend a one-week intensive practical Theology course at an extension site of the college. While preparing the project and thesis, the student is required to coordinate with faculty advisers through scheduled online communication such as chats.
To qualify for D.Min online PhD degree programs, candidates should have a Masters of Divinity degree or equivalent with GPA of 3.2 upwards, three years experience in the ministry and letters of recommendation from a religious leader within the minister’s denomination as well as from other community leaders.
