Rhodes International PhD Scholarships at University of Oxford

University of Oxford is one of the oldest and top universities in the world. Rhodes scholarships are the finest and prestigious PhD International scholarship programs in the world. The Rhodes scholarship supports PhD scholars from all around the world enrolled in research program at the University of Oxford. Each year 83 PhD scholars from 14 countries studying at the University Of Oxford are selected for this prestigious scholarship. The scholarships were established in 1903 under the will of Cecil Rhodes to help outstanding all-round students. The Rhodes International Scholarship is awarded to PhD scholars and the candidates are selected on the following criteria:
- The candidate must be able to show scholastic and literary attachment.
- The candidate must have energy and will to pursue his talent
- The candidate must be devoted sincerely to his research project with an aim to help the needy and weak.
- The candidate must bear a moral character and must have leadership qualities.
The selection of the candidate is made by the Rhodes scholarship selection committee. The candidate irrespective of gender, marital status, race, social background and ethnicity are selected for this prestigious PhD scholarship who demonstrates a high leadership skill.
The eligibility criteria set by the scholarship committee to apply for the scholarship is as following:
- The applicants must belong to one of the Rhodes constituency
- The age limit of the candidate varies between the constituencies. The minimum age is 18 and maximum age is 28 years. Candidates must check their age requirements as per their constituency. For most constituencies the age limit is 24-25 years.
- The candidates must have Bachelor’s degree and an excellent academic record. The candidates are required to check with their constituency for any extra requirement in terms of grade and University of previous degrees.
The candidates who wish to apply for the scholarships may do so online. The applications for 2013 Rhodes scholarships are open now and the last date varies from constituency to constituency. The online applications procedure is not available for the candidates of Pakistan and New Zealand. With the online application form the candidates are also required to submit the following documents.
- Academic record evidence
- Resume of the candidate
- Statement of the candidate stating the subject he wishes to take up at the University.
- Age proof which may be Birth certificate or Passport
- Proof of knowledge of English language for candidates who do not have English as their first language.
- Photographs
- List of referees
The Rhodes PhD scholarship covers the tuition fees, a personal stipend of 12516GBP annually, health insurance and economy class airfare for the candidates from their home country to Oxford and vice-versa.
The Rhodes scholarship selection committee will make the selection and successful candidates would be required to submit their original documents. The Rhodes scholarship would be confirmed once the student holds a valid offer of place from the University.
