PhD Scholarships from Nanyang Technological University Singapore for 2014

As the top-academic study in accounting research, Nanyang Technological University or NTU is well-known for being the first research centre when it comes to environmental life sciences as it prioritises sustainability in its research agenda. Nanyang Technological University is one of the largest publicly held universities in Singapore. It is, in fact, dedicated to cultivate highly skilled graduates and prepare them for viable workplace in the 21st century. In line with this commitment to the academic world, Nanyang Technological University now offers its PhD scholarships for the school year commencing in 2014.

The PhD degree programmes at Nanyang Technological University aim to develop graduates with high academic achievement to equip them with the right knowledge and skills they can apply at work. Students enrolled in these programmes typically work in the research areas like health information, knowledge systems, communication law and policy, and information systems. They are also given the opportunity to apply for any of its PhD scholarships. The Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Nanyang Technological University provides scholarships for its January 2014 intake designed for exceptional graduate students who have interest in projects offered in the research areas of new media, sustainable earth and future healthcare. These study grants are available for students who are citizens of Singapore as well as to those who are already recognized as permanent residents of the country and those who come from overseas countries. Applications for these scholarships are only accepted until July 31, 2013.

These PhD scholarships include tuition fee waiver for a maximum of four years, monthly stipend ranging from $2,000-$3,000, start-up money grants intended for research project, and funding aid for overseas conferences that cover registration fees and travel expenses. And to be eligible, students should be enrolled for any of the PhD programs offered at Nanyang Technological University and this can be realized when they comply with the admission requirements. Among these requirements are bachelor’s degree with upper 2nd class honours, good master’s degree with high grades in academic, English language competency, possible consideration of a bachelor’s degree with 1st class honours for direct PhD degree entry, and pursuance of your proposed advanced study field.

Nanyang Technological University clarifies that GRE is not mandatory for international and local applicants, but an interview is necessary for those candidates who have graduated from educational institutions overseas for the assessment of their language competency other than their potential in pursuing their independent research. Scores in IELTS or TOEFL are also required for candidates whose native language is non-English. All the necessary documents should be submitted via the Internet and then followed by solid copies of the application form and other supporting documents to be sent to the Graduate Studies Office of the university.

Upon application of your PhD scholarships, you will also be asked to submit research topic and research proposal in 3,000 words in any topic related to information and communication studies. But this still need to be within the interests of your potential supervisor as you will be working with him or her. So you have to make sure that your research topic is within their inclination.
