PhD Scholarships from City University of Hong Kong

One of the eight Hong Kong Special Administration Region or HKSAR institutions funded by the government, City University of Hong Kong or CityU is regarded as a comprehensive research university. CityU has already achieved fast growth recently and has recognized internationally due to its academic achievements. The 2012 QS World University Rankings places the university at the 95th position among other universities. It also ranks 9th among the top 50 young institutions across the globe. It is equipped with excellent academic team committed to the advancement of knowledge that aims to benefit the region other than the society alone. Recent data shows that it has approximately 18,000 enrolled students, excluding those registered to the Associate Degree Program.

With key objective of continuing its academic endeavor, CityU has just opened its Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme or HKPFS for school year 2013-2014, in addition to its PhD scholarships. An Overview

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme is developed by HKSAR Government’s Research Grants Council or RGC. Just like any other PhD scholarships, HKPFS aims to attract the brightest and best students from any parts of the world to never hesitate in achieving their dreams.

How to Become Eligible for HKPFS?

Wherever PhD students may come from or whatever ethnic group they may belong, they can be eligible if they are interested in pursuing full-time PhD degree program. HKPFS applicants are required to demonstrate their exceptional qualities when it comes to interpersonal and communication skills, academic performance, leadership abilities, and research potential/ability. They should follow the entrance requirements listed below, which are common for other PhD scholarships:

Other than the above-mentioned qualifications; professional qualifications or any other CityU-recognized scholarly achievements are also required. Further entrance qualifications can be prescribed in addition to individual schools and departments. IELTS/TOEFL results are mandatory for applicants coming from an institution where English language is not their medium of instruction.

HKPFS Funding

HKPFS offers HK$20,000 monthly stipend and HK$10,000 annual travel allowance for conference and research for eligible candidates for a maximum of three years. CityU will provide studentship level same as the Fellowship given by RGC for their 4-year study of students enrolled to a four-year PhD degree program on a monthly basis.

How to Apply for HKPFS?

Interested applicants of the scheme are given two options in selecting PhD programmes together with their priority. They are compelled to nominate 2 academic referees tasked to give comment with regards to their academic performances, then invite them for the completion and direct return of their filled out form to their chosen institution.
