The online PhD UK Doctor of Education (EdD) program is designed for busy educators who want to conduct research on policies that will affect the quality and delivery of education, but whose professional responsibilities prevent them from undertaking full-time studies.
Entry requirements for the online PhD UK EdD degree are a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline from a British university or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university, and at least three years of relevant professional experience. Foreign students are also required to present evidence of proficiency in English. Successful candidates are expected to complete six taught modules, which are assessed through written assignments of various word lengths, and a thesis proposal of not more than 6,000 words. Scholars are also required to attend on-campus twice-yearly study schools throughout the program. The scholar will then research and write a 55,000-word thesis, which must be of publishable quality, about a significant issue in contemporary education that makes a vital contribution to the body of knowledge about the subject.
Assessment of the thesis will be through a viva voce defense which will lead to the awarding of the Doctor of Education degree. Maximum expected period for completion of the program is six years from time of enrollment, although the EdD is designed to be completed within five years.
