Online PhD Degree Programs - University of Alabama in Huntsville

Today’s blog with this series of online PhD degree programs is mainly about distance or online PhDs in various fields of Engineering. The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is a state-supported and accredited university that award baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral degrees. UAH is renowned for its engineering and science programs. Scientists at UAH have managed the first commercial, non-government rocket programs in the US. The University is also credited for the discovery of the first high-temperature superconductor.
The world-class research effort of its student and academe are not without basis. UAH’s Engineering Department has recently received national recognition after Engineering professor Richard Fork presented an overview of his research during an interview with Fox News. The TV news networks came to the campus to shed light on Fork’s research activities. Together with Dr. Fork, several students who have been working with him are investigating on the possibility of using layers to deflect asteroids away from the Earth.
Engineers aiming to pursue a distance or online PhD Degree Program in Industrial, Systems and Engineering Management can now gain the UAH academic advantage.
If you are ready to pursue any of the above mentioned distance PhDs (in Industrial, Systems or Engineering Management), you need an ABET-accredited BS degree in engineering with minimum of 3.0 GPA (for undergraduates) and 3.5 (for graduate levels). You are also required GRE scores with five years of work experience or if you are currently full-time engineer in a U.S.-based organization, you can submit the application.
To complete this program, student needs 66 hours (beyond the bachelor’s degree) with 6 key areas; Major, Supporting Courses, First Minor, Math/stat Minor, Foreign Language/Ancillary Skills, and the last dissertation. The current programs are designed with a supervisory committee of five members, advising each doctoral candidate. These members will be representing the candidate’s major field of study.
It is important to mention that current program requires some residency; either taking nine hours of graduate work (In each of two consecutive semesters) or taking six semester hours of graduate work in each of the three (out of four) consecutive semesters.
For students in need of assistance, there are several funding resources for the graduate programs. Women who wish to pursue a PhD Degree in aerospace-related science and engineering can receive aid from the Amelia Earhart Fellowship. Other fellowships include: Alabama Space Grant Consortium Graduate Fellowship, UAH Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship, Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships, UAH Dimopoullos Fellowship, and IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Program.
