Online PhD Degree Programs – Télé-université

Télé-université is a distance learning institution established in 1972, and is a component of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Télé-université or Téluq, offers six degrees, several undergraduate programs, one PhD program and two master degree programs. Located in Quebec, Canada, the university became a component of the UQAM on October 19th 2005, and having 60,000 students is the biggest francophone university. 55 professors, with the help of tutors, conduct classes with support formats including DVDs and web sites using content management tools. Téluq’s PhD program is one good instance of online PhD Degree Programs.
The PhD in Cognitive Informatics is offered jointly with the UQAM. It is important to note that some of the activities of the course are held in the campus in Montreal. Online PhD Degree Programs can only be taken to an extent, as oral defences and some activities require the candidate’s physical attendance. To be eligible for the program, one must have attained a master’s degree with an average of 3.2 or 4.3 or equivalent, and must hold a title or have experience in a discipline in the humanities (communication, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, education). Some refresher courses by the university may be required to be taken. The plan of study for the course would take four years if full time and six years for part time; candidates are required to complete 90 credits, including a doctoral examination consisting of a General Review and a Thesis Project, with the activity encompassing research, writing and presentation accounting for 67 credits in the course.
Different online PhD Degree Programs have different regulations for special admissions; for the PhD in Cognitive Informatics requires that all documents requested by the university be presented fro special cases before consideration.
