Online PhD Degree programs – The University of Sydney – Professional Doctorate in Social Sciences (D.Soc.Sci.)

Several online PhD degree programs are offered by the University of Sydney, including a Professional Doctorate in Social Sciences (D.Soc.Sci.). Known as USyd or Sydney University to many, the University of Sydney is the oldest academic institution in all of Australia. It was established in the year 1850, and is known to be the country’s second largest university too in terms of student population. It is a proud member of the Group of Eight, the Worldwide Universities Network, the Academic Consortium 21, and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
The Professional Doctorate of Social Sciences program, among other online PhD degree programs, is a course which allows professionals to pursue a higher degree of rigorous scholarship as well as advancement in practice through training at the upper levels of discipline. Students are made to be aware of the changing environment and the flexibility of their profession thereby developing them to become skilled in research and analytical techniques.
An applicant for the online PhD degree programs, particularly for the Social Sciences Doctorates Degree, must hold a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant field with First or Second Class Honours from the same university. Each candidate must also provide substantial portfolio of professional or published work. A Master’s Degree by research or a PhD in the relevant field is also accepted, with dissertation from the University of Sydney with merit. The program comprises one-third coursework and the rest of the program is focused on research. Students will complete 5 units of postgraduate study and will complete a 50,000-word thesis.
The program will run 3 to 4 years full time and 3 to 8 years full time. All applications are to be given to the postgraduate adviser of the postgraduate section of the Faculty of Arts. A 1,000-word research proposal must be enclosed with the application letter.
