Online PhD Degree programs – La Trobe University – Professional Doctorate in Nursing

The Division of Nursing and Midwifery at La Trobe University is one of Australia’s oldest providers of nursing education and is a pioneer in offering four-year nursing degrees. It has also established links with many universities abroad, allowing the Division to gain an international research for the quality of its research.
Online PhD degree programs in Nursing (DN) are professional doctorates that are equivalent to PhD awards but are focused more on research that makes a significant contribution to practice in the student’s profession. Research areas for the program include community nursing, palliative care nursing and community nursing.
Applicants for this Online PhD degree programs must have completed the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree with an H1 or H2A-level Honours grade, or a Master’s degree in a related discipline, as well as at least three years of relevant work experience; overseas applicants also need to meet English-language requirements to demonstrate proficiency in the language. Candidates must successfully complete coursework and a research thesis. In the course of the program they are also required to participate in doctoral colloquia presentations with their fellow students. Thesis supervisors will be assigned from the Division faculty to guide students through their research projects. Duration of the program is four years on a part-time basis.
Unlike traditional Nursing doctorates, La Trobe’s online PhD degree programs in Nursing allow students to take as much as 75% of the coursework in subjects that have a strong clinical and practical focus. Successful award of the doctorate qualifies graduates for administrative positions at the highest level in public and private-sector hospitals and other health care-related institutions.
