The Professional Doctorate in Psychology (DPsych) is designed to meet the needs of practising psychologists who want to conduct research that allows them to make a significant contribution to practice in a professional setting. Students may specialize in either forensic or clinical psychology. DPsych online PhD degree programs are accredited by the Australian Psychological Society and meet its postgraduate training requirements.
Applicants for DPsych online PhD degree programs must have the equivalent of an Honours degree or a Masters in psychology and be a registered psychologist with at least two years of relevant professional experience. Requirements for completion of the DPsych course include coursework (four mandatory and three specialization subjects), work placements and a dissertation. Candidates with a Masters may be exempted from several mandatory subjects, but not from advanced coursework or the dissertation.
Duration of DPsych online PhD degree programs is a maximum of eight years from the time of enrolment. DPsych graduates are expected to have a deeper understanding of the relationship between research and practice as well as a better appreciation of ethical issues in professional practice; they should also have gained advanced knowledge and skills in their chosen specialization.
