Amridge University, formerly known as Southern Christian University, is a private university affiliated with the Churches of Christ. The University operations began in 1967 as the Alabama Christian School of Religion and primarily functioned as a theological seminary for ministers in Bible and Christian Counseling.

Online PhD Programs – Doctor of Ministry in Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Marriage
The Doctor of Ministry in Family Therapy offers an advanced professional degree for church organizations and other religious vocations. By obtaining such degree, students will be prepared for counseling ministry particularly in counseling couples, families, and individuals and other counseling profession. The degree will also allow students to possess skills necessary for a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Amridge University’s PhD Degree programs in Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Marriage are 60-hour semester research programs, combined with traditional and non-traditional extended learning delivery systems so that students can further their academic excellence in both therapeutic expertise and scholarship. Students will need to pass rigorous school materials in the following theories: counseling and therapy, human development, problems with abuse and addiction, cultural diversity, and research. It is important to point out that current PhD degree programs require compulsory (one week) residency during each academic year (in each of the first fall semesters). This period of residency is entirely allocated for two major courses with face to face participations. The rest of the programs have been designed around internet based live sessions with regular interaction between students and professors. A normal full-time student can finish these programs in 4 years of duration.
Online PhD Programs – Entry Requirements
As an entry requirement, you need a master’s degree from a recognized university in related area of research. Along with your admission application, you also need official transcripts, TOFEL and GRE test scores and three letters of recommendations (One from a former teacher, one from a colleague, and one from your employers). You also need to submit a monograph (on your career goals) and a term paper to reflect your research and academic writing skills. After the application consideration, a last interview will be conducted. In some rare cases this interview can be conducted via telephone.
