International PhD Scholarships from University of Cambridge

The self-governed community of scholars Cambridge University is considered as the oldest among the universities and the primary academic centres across the globe. The university is composed of 31 colleges as well as more than 150 departments, schools, faculties, and any other institutions. Over the years, it has already attained a variety of achievements such as being first in the rank for the QS World University Rankings in 2010 and 2011 and second place in 2012. It is offering both domestic and international students with a number of PhD scholarships in a wide range of study fields. For school year 2013-2014, the university will be offering about 80 International Scholarships to overseas students who are interested to pursue research course under its Cambridge International Scholarship Scheme or CISS.

CISS PhD scholarships will be made accessible through competition among the potential candidates who are identified by their own departments as the top students. Each of these awards will cover the whole cost of the fees and the maintenance for the course’s duration at a maximum of three years. All of the students who will be admitted for a three-year research course that will commence in the next school year are eligible of the awards.

However, students who are planning to enroll for one year or less PhD degree program are not entitled to apply for any of the CISS grants.

You will only be eligible for the international PhD scholarships if you have passed an application for continuation or admission as the university’s graduate student through its form for Admission and Scholarship Application or online on or before December 4, 2012. You are required to send your supporting documents as soon as possible after your admission application through the Internet. You have to complete the application form that includes research statement and academic references. Qualified candidates for the CISS grants will be listed by the Student Registry and submit it to respective faculties or departments in January 2013.

Keep in mind that the competition of the CISS awards follows different stages. They include ranking, nomination, admission offer, and selection of the top nominated recipients. You will know whether you are selected for the awards or not because you will be notified. Should there be no email sent to you by the end of April, this only indicates that you have not succeeded in your scholarship application. Otherwise, chosen candidates are expected to meet the admission conditions set by the university in order for them to receive funding for CISS PhD scholarships.
