Online PhD UK-Lancaster University

With this blog of online PhD UK, today we will be looking at details of a UK university, offering PhD by Published Work program for the employees and past graduates of the university. Located in Lancaster, Lancashire, England, the University of Lancaster is a leading British university. It currently has eight undergraduate colleges and one post graduate college on it’s one campus. Lancaster University was founded by Royal Charter, in 1964, as one of the United Kingdom’s plate glass universities, following World War II. As stipulated by the Charter, HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent served as the university’s first Chancellor and remained so until her retirement in 2004.

Lancaster University began to accept students in October of 1964. Originally, the university had little more than a dozen professors. Today, there are more than 2,000 staff members and more than 17,000 students. Lancaster University was named 7th best research institution in the United Kingdom, by the Research Assessment Exercise. In addition, it was ranked 10th out of 113 British universities in the 2008 Good University Guide. All Lancaster University staff members are college members.

A PhD by Published Work program is offered by Lancaster University. To be eligible, a candidate must demonstrate that their work makes a significant contribution to the body of knowledge in a particular field. The published work must also demonstrate the candidate’s capacity to pursue further research. There must be a coherent contribution to research and a demonstration of depth of knowledge similar to demonstrated in a PhD thesis.

Candidates for Lancaster University’s PhD by Published Work program must be current or past members of the university’s staff, or staff members from one of the university’s affiliated institutions. In addition, a candidate may also be an alumni of the university or affiliates. Alumni must be graduates of at least five years’ standing, with a master’s degree, or evidence of research training or experience that’s equivalent.
