University College London is a trailblazer in psychology research in the UK. UCL was the site of the first psychological laboratory in Britain, which was also the second such facility to be founded in the world after Leipzig. UCL’s reputation for research excellence in this field was recently confirmed by the high marks given the university by the Higher Education Funding Council research assessment exercise.
The online PhD UK Psychotherapy (DPsych) program is designed for practicing psychologists who have decided to become professional Child Psychotherapists. The duration of the program is six years part-time although candidates may also opt to take the program for four-years part-time with the fifth year on a full-time basis. Participants undertake the first four years while in clinical training and the remaining two when already employed.
Applicants for the DPsych online PhD UK program should possess an upper second class Honours degree in Psychology which confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Registration, and demonstrate the ability to conduct academic work at a doctorate level. Candidates undertake taught courses and clinical work placements which will be documented through written case reports in various formats based on psychoanalytic formulas; at the end of the program they will submit a doctoral thesis that will make a significant contribution to practice in the specialization.
Assessment for the DPscyh is through submission of two extended essays per year in the first three years of the program, progress reports from clinical and placement supervisors, completion of all research assignments and a viva voce examination of the thesis. Successful exit from the online PhD UK DPsych program will qualify graduates for accreditation by the Association of Child Psychotherapists.
