Educators who want to qualify for administrative positions in both public and non-government educational institutions should enroll in Nottingham Trent’s three-year online PhD UK Professional Doctorate in Education program. The course aims to turn participants into well rounded professionals with advanced research and communication skills that will allow them to mediate between the various stakeholders in the education sector.
To qualify for the online PhD UK Professional Doctorate program, candidates must have a post-graduate qualification in education or a related subject, or have alternative qualifications judged by the admissions committee as sufficient to allow them entry to the program. Foreign candidates must also provide evidence of proficiency in English. Students will undertake four taught modules that represent the various stages of the research project. The concluding module will involve the production of a doctoral thesis encompassing the student’s critical reflections on changes in the body of knowledge of their subject area arising from the process of research.
Assessment of the online PhD UK program, leading to an Ed.D award, is through six formal written assignments, discussions on the progress of the student’s research with supervisors, group discussions with fellow students, and a viva voce examination of their thesis. Students, however, may opt to exit the program after completing the first four modules, with an award of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil).
