The online PhD UK program in Health Research (DHRes) is offered by Hertfordshire’s School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. In a recent research assessment of UK universities, Hertfordshire was the highest-ranked new university for nursing and midwifery. The DHRes is designed for health professionals who want to develop their research and leadership abilities in order to shift careers or move to a position of greater responsibility in their organizations. Applicants for the DHRes program must have an upper second class Honours degree or a Master’s degree in a related subject area, and at least three years of relevant work experience.
The DHRes online PhD UK program is expected to be completed in six years of part-time study, which will include four brief on-campus residencies of three-days each throughout the academic year; the rest of the program is delivered through distance-learning modalities. The DHRes program is not available on a full-time basis.
After the completion of the taught component of the course, the candidate is expected to produce a dissertation of no more than 80,000 words based on original research that will make an important contribution to the body of knowledge in the subject area. The DHRes will be awarded upon successful completion of all course requirements, including a viva voce defense of the dissertation.
