Online PhD UK – University of Dundee – Ph.D. in History

If you would like to study for an online PhD UK degree in History, one of the best places to earn it from is the University of Dundee in Scotland. Dundee is one of the UK’s most prestigious and highly-rated universities, and has gained international recognition for the excellence of its course offerings in a variety of disciplines, including science, art and medicine. Dundee’s History Program has been ranked as among the best in the UK by 2009 Guardian University Guide, which rated it second in Scotland only to St. Andrews and 14th out of 86 British Universities.
Before you can enroll in the online PhD UK History program, you are first required to enroll in the Masters in History (MLitt) program, which can be completed over two years. The MLitt program has three sets of awards – Masters of Letters, MLitt by Historical Research for doctoral candidates who already have a well-developed research topic, and MPhil in History by Distance Learning for candidates who live far away from the Dundee campus. All students are required to complete a research dissertation before being awarded the degree.
Once you’ve earned your MLitt, then you can apply for the online PhD UK History degree program, which can be completed over 36 months on a part-time basis. The doctoral candidate will be required to do detailed research on a historical topic for the purposes of writing a thesis of 80,000 to 100,000 words. An international student applying for the program will also be required to present proof of competence in English before being admitted.
