Online PhD UK – University of Cumbria – Distance Education PhD Programs

The University of Cumbria is a young university that was established only in 2007, although the institutions from which it was derived, the Charlotte Mason Teacher Training College and the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, date back to the 19th century. At present, it has campuses in Lancaster, Carlisle, Penrith, Newton Rigg and Ambleside, as well as a specialized teacher-education centre in London. The University has five faculties, in the fields of Business, Social Science and Sport, Education, Science and Natural Resources, Arts, and Health, Medical Sciences and Social Care. It is also partnering with the county’s four Further Education Colleges to deliver its courses through their campuses.
The University offers online PhD UK programs in its Faculty of Education. The online PhD UK in Education is a four to six year part-time course that requires to have at least a 2.1 Honours degree; a Master’s degree or its academic equivalent would be an asset but not essential to be accepted. Some years of experience in research work or professional practice in a related field would also be required as a prerequisite for entry to the program.
The online PhD UK Education program will be conducted through supervised independent research with the goal of producing a doctoral thesis; regular contract will be maintained with an academic supervisor through e-mail or other online means. Possible specializations for those taking this program include curriculum development, primary education, education in the developing world, teacher development programs, learning theories, Special Needs Education, Science Education and Urban Education.
