Online PhD UK – University College Cork – Professional Doctorate in Social Science

The University College Cork (UCC) is now offering an online PhD UK in Social Science. The university is the 2004 and 2006 Sunday Times Irish University of the Year. What was formerly known as Queen’s College Cork is now a university of over 17,000 students, about a fourth of them are postgraduate students.
The Professional Doctorate in Social Science course is a distance learning programme that runs for four years. It is suitable for social professionals who are currently working in social policy, social research, social work, and/or youth and community work. A structured course is provided consisting of two years of modules which are taught and another two years spent on conducting individual research. Online learning approaches are pretty much applied in the programme.
Entry requirements for an online PhD UK in Social Science includes a master’s degree either in social science, social policy, community work, or any other area relevant to such field. A professional experience of 5 years is also expected. Applicants must possess basic computer literacy skills and must also have online access. Year one of the online PhD UK course will include introduction to social research, philosophies of social science, research methods and skill, and social policy debates and processes. Year two will also be composed of four studies while year three will be for the initiation of an individual research project. The last year is for research dissertation.
The next intake of students will be in the month of September. The Department of Applied Social Studies is the academic department that offers the programme. The culminating activity of the course will be the production of a 40,000-word dissertation.
