Online PhD UK – The Open University – PhD in Planetary and Space Sciences

If you’ve ever looked up at the stars and wondered about the possibility of life on other planets, then you should enroll for an online PhD UK program at the Open University’s Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute. The Institute investigates the origins and evolution of the planets of the Solar System and the conditions that could give rise to life with the use of instruments launched into space as well as laboratory simulations.
Online PhD UK candidates are required to produce research that makes an original and substantial contribution to the body of knowledge in their area of study. Since the project is conducted on a part-time basis, the student must be able to complete the project without access to the OU’s facilities. While the time frame for completion of the dissertation is variable, it is generally expected that the student will be able to finish the research within six years from enrollment.
It is recommended that the online PhD UK student be pursuing research that already draws upon skills they are using in their current endeavors, in order to make it easier for them to complete the project. As part of their application, the student must produce a detailed research proposal that will be submitted for evaluation; once accepted, it will be refined in collaboration with their internal supervisor.
In general, part-time PhD students are expected to be resident in the UK; exceptions may be made, however, for foreign students who already have an existing collaboration, or share a common research interest, with their prospective supervisors.
