Online PhD UK – The Open University – PhD in Business

The Open University’s Business School allows business professionals to earn higher qualifications while continuing to juggle busy careers and personal responsibilities. The School offers training in advanced research methods through a Masters of Science (MSc) in Management and Business Research Methods, followed by full-time and part-time online PhD UK programs in the following fields: Law, Human Resources, Finance and Accounting, Marketing, Public Interest Management and Management of Knowledge and Innovation. While part-time doctorate students are normally resident in the UK, foreign students may be accepted if they are members of the of the OU’s overseas partner institutes. The MSc degree, however, is available through distance learning and is equivalent to a full-time Masters Research (MRes) degree program.
The minimum requirement for entry into online PhD UK programs in the Business School are a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area or an Upper Second Class Honours degree, or equivalent qualifications. Successful candidates are expected to produce an original research paper that contributes to the expansion of knowledge in the researcher’s area of study. The period for completing the research is variable and dependent on the requirements of the specific course taken, although it should be finished within six years from enrollment. Candidates will be provided with two internal supervisors who will oversee the research project and are members of the Open University faculty.
Potential research projects that can be undertaken by online PhD UK candidates should reflect the general research themes of the department, such as Accounting Regulation, Corporate Governance, Gender and Sexuality in Organizations, Generating and Adopting Innovative Practices, Global Marketing Strategy, Corporate Social Responsibility and Ethics in Marketing. Doctoral candidates may also propose their own research projects in consultation with their potential supervisors.
