The Professional Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counseling (PsychD) is designed for experienced psychotherapists and counselors who want to advance their personal and professional development. Applicants for the online PhD UK PsychD program should have a good upper second-class Honours degree as well as two years relevant professional experience. If the successful candidate also has a postgraduate qualification in a related field or are registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council or UK Council for Psychotherapy, they may be granted an exemption from some of the modules in the taught component of the program. Participants should be Counselors or Psychotherapists who are actively practicing for at least 100 hours a year.
The taught component of the PsychD program takes three years to complete, while the dissertation component will take three years if the scholar opts to gain a Master of Science (MSc) award as well, or two years if they continue straight to the Professional Doctorate. Assessment for the online PhD UK program is through written assignments; the degree is awarded upon successful completion and defense of the dissertation. Scholars should also attend weekly therapy sessions with a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and be supervised at least on a fortnightly basis with another accredited psychotherapist.
