Online PhD UK – London Metropolitan University – Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD)

In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise covering all UK universities, over half of the research in education conducted at the London Metropolitan University was ranked of world-leading or internationally-excellent quality. Research on education at the London Metropolitan University is conducted at the Institute for Policy Studies in Education, an innovative research center that focuses on issues of social justice in education.
Busy working education professionals who want to earn their advanced degrees are encouraged to enroll in the online PhD UK Education program (Ed.D), which is offered under the IPSE. The Ed.D will not only allow them to conduct original research in an area of current professional interest but also network with other researchers who have similar research interests.
Applicants for the program should have a Masters in Education or a related discipline (or have the equivalent qualification if the award was given abroad) and have three years work experience in a relevant professional area. Foreign students should also demonstrate proficiency in English through high scores in the IELTS or TOEFL. During the first two years of the online PhD UK program, students will undertake six taught modules on advanced research methods and practice in the educational field, which will require them to attend brief, intensive on-campus study sessions lasting no longer than two days, as well as one-on-one sessions with a personal tutor.
The remainder of the program will be devoted to the completion of a 40,000 to 50,000-word doctoral thesis. Assessment of the online PhD UK program, leading to the award of the Ed.D, is through written exercises and a viva voce defense of the thesis. Estimated duration for the Ed.D program is from four to six years.
