International PhD Scholarships from Sant Anna School of Advanced Studies from Italy for 2014-15
Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, located in Pisa, Italy, is a public university with an emphasis of applied sciences. Sant’Anna is a university that offers Master’s as well as PhD programmes; however, the undergraduate programmes are done in concurrence with the University of Pisa. Potential candidates must undergo rigorous, competitive entrance exams and only the best and brightest are selected to enhance their education with the additional academic curriculum provided by Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.
Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies has partnered with the University of Strasbourg to offer PhD scholarships to international students. Currently there are four complete PhD scholarships available to international student that last a duration of four years. The PhD scholarships are amounting to a gross amount of € 14.000 per academic year. Along with these scholarships recipients will have access to free lunches provided by the school’s canteen as well as use of campus facilities. In order to be eligible for these PhD scholarships a certain criteria must be met.
- Applicants, with no restrictions to nationality, must have completed a Master of Science (M.Sc.) or a Master of Art (M.A.)
- Undergraduate students who will obtain such a degree before the start of the academic school year are also eligible to apply. In this situation a successful applicant will complete their degree on time with no issue as well as transmit all of the appropriate paperwork to Sant’Anna before the start of the academic school year.
There are a number of required documents needed in order for Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies to make their decisions regarding scholarships. The required documentation follows:
- Copy of valid identification documents. For international applicants a photocopy of your passport will be accepted.
- Complete academic record with completed list of courses and grades (In French, Italian, or English)
- Completed Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum covering professional experiences, scientific training, and any publications or other information that would help to evaluate the applicant.
- Copy of a research project, no longer than 2,500 words which entails the research activities that the candidate would be performing during their PhD courses. This is not set in stone and the applicant is free to change their research topic during their postgraduate program. However, it is an important element for evaluating applicants as it gives an idea of research interests.
- Copy of the applicants’ Master thesis or a copy of an abstract delivered in French, Italian, or English, in addition to a copy of any noteworthy application that would demonstrate the applicant’s suitability. The works can be written in languages other than French, English, or Italian as long as they are accompanied by a summary in one of the three chosen languages.
- Applicants must be able to provide at least two letters of recommendation written and signed by members of the faculty or other notable academics who have had the personal opportunity to assess the candidate’s work. It is important to note that these letters must be sent via email directly to the school with the surname and name of the candidate. All other methods of sending letters will be dismissed.
Recipients will be considered based off the submission of all required documents as well as any publications that candidate has contributed.
