Exon, the university’s abbreviation, is a research university situated in the south west area of England. Notable for its sublime campus grounds, The University of Exeter is the successor of the Royal Albert Memorial College, established in 1900, and the University College of the South West of England, established in 1922. It later received its Royal Charter in 1955. It is one of the sought after universities in the world because of its comprehensive training, undergraduate research, and PhD scholarships. The University of Exeter is one of the top 12 universities in the United Kingdom.
There are 19 PhD scholarships that aspiring students can take advantage of at the university. Most of them are fully funded and are available within the university’s different colleges. Applicants are expected to be exemplary with sufficient background on the appropriate discipline.
Scholarships are open to all EU and non-EU students. For the 2014-2015 academic year, each scholarship can cover tuition fees and provide annual stipend of £13,863 to applicants who can satisfactorily meet the requirements imposed by each college.
Requirements:
- At least a 2.1 Honors degree, an MSc or equivalent in either science, chemistry and physics
- An IELTS score of not less than 6.0 for applicants whose first language is not English

Some of these PhD scholarships can only accommodate EU students thus it is important to look into the specifics of every funding. All interested candidates are expected to submit their applications at their earliest convenience. Deadlines for the applications are on October 2014 but since all of the scholarships are at a first come, first served basis, it is best to submit early. Only suitable applicants will be contacted by the college and awarded with the university’s full funding.
