Online PhD UK – London Metropolitan University – Professional Doctorate in Researching Work (DProf)

The Working Lives Research Institute, based at the London Metropolitan University, is a unique research center that conducts applied and academic research into all aspects of working life, with an emphasis on issues of social justice and equality. Working Lives Research Institutehas developed strong ties with trade unions, non-government organizations and progressive institutions, which have made invaluable contributions to the development of the Institute’s research program.
The Professional Doctorate in Researching Work (DProf Researching Work) is an online PhD UK program offered under the Working Lives Research Institute that is aimed at trade unionists, community organizers and other people who work in the voluntary sector. The DProf Researching Work degree is designed to help participants develop theoretical approaches and advanced research skills which they will apply to the concerns of working life, based on their particular professional experiences.
Applicants to the online PhD UK DProf Researching Work should have at least a Masters in a relevant field, although candidates with relevant professional qualifications and work experience may also be considered for entry into the program. The doctorate program requires participants to undertake six taught modules on advanced research methodologies and the role of work in a broad range of contexts, which will require them to attend two two-and-a-half day on-campus study sessions, and four two-day sessions. After successful completion of the modules, candidates will undertake a research thesis in an area of professional interest to them.
Assessment of the online PhD UK program, leading to the award of the DProf Researching Work, will be through case studies, group presentations, literature reviews, written assignments and a viva voce defense of the thesis. To support their progress through the program, students will be assigned a personal tutor as well as being provided with supervision for their thesis and other coursework requirements.
