Online PhD UK – University of Glasgow – Professional Doctorate in Education

The University of Glasgow is one of the best higher education institutions where one can obtain a research degree. Teachers, who would like to shift careers to an administrative or policy making position in their organizations or with government and non-government institutions, need to earn advanced qualifications from this university. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise revealed that nearly 70% of the research conducted at Glasgow was ranked in the top two categories; the quality of its instruction was also assessed as being in the top 10 among UK universities.
The online PhD UK Education program (EdD) is equivalent to a Doctor of Philosophy award, but its focus is more on applied study that investigates how research relates to actual policy and practice. It also differs from a PhD in that the first part of the program is concerned with taught coursework before the scholar actually begins research for the dissertation.
Applicants for the online PhD UK EdD program are required to hold at least a Master’s degree in Education or a related subject area, as well as have relevant work experience. During the first three years of the program, students will study six taught courses, which will each require on-campus attendance for a weekend. In the last two years, scholars will research and submit a dissertation of around 50,000 to 60,000 words under the supervision of an adviser. They will also be required to attend a weekend on-campus residency for each dissertation year.
While participants in the online PhD UK program have a certain amount of flexibility in completing their coursework, they will still have to be online at least once a week to participate in discussions and other course activities with their advisers and fellow students, as well as completing other required activities.
