Online PhD UK – University of Exeter – Professional Doctorate in Education

Exeter is one of the UK’s most prestigious universities, consistently scoring high rankings in major university ranking tables. As globalization makes the world smaller, there is an increasing demand for English teachers and new approaches to teaching the language to speakers of other tongues. To address this demand, the University of Exeter is offering an online PhD UK research degree specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
Exeter’s Doctor of Education (EdD) TESOL online PhD UK program allows education professionals to conduct advanced research into issues regarding teaching and learning languages, as well as language teacher education. The program requires candidates to compete both coursework consisting of five modules that provide scholars a solid grounding in advanced research methodology and the conceptual aspects of teaching English, as well as a dissertation.
Candidates for the EdD program are expected to have at least a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics or a related subject area, as well as three years or more of relevant work experience. Foreign students applying to the online PhD UK program are also expected to demonstrate proficiency in English through high scores in evaluation tests such as IELTS. If taken on a part-time basis, the EdD degree is expected to take around four years to complete.
Scholars successfully complete the modules by accomplishing written assignments or portfolios; they are also required to submit a research proposal before being allowed to progress to the second part of the program, in which they must write a 50,000-word paper consisting of original research that makes a significant contribution to the body of knowledge of the subject area. The EdD is awarded upon successful completion of all requirements.
