Psychoanalytic Studies is a relatively new field, but one that offers many career opportunities for those who have an award in this exciting discipline. The University of Essex Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies has become internationally recognized as one of the leading centers for research in this field, which focuses on the unconscious mind and the role it plays in mental health as well culture and society in general.
The online PhD UK program in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, which leads to the award of D. Psych Psych, is designed for mental health professionals who would like to conduct research into clinical practices for the treatment of emotionally-disturbed patients. It is estimated to be completed in 24 months from the period of enrollment.
Applicants for the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy program are required to have a Masters degree in a related field or have an equivalent qualification (good clinical training may be considered for entry to the program) as well as a good background in Psychoanalytic or Jungian theory or practice. They must also have a first-rate research proposal. The first year of the online PhD UK course requires scholars to undergo clinical training at participating institutions while attending on-campus research workshops and starting the process of developing their dissertations; this is followed by the production of a 40,000-word dissertation, under the supervision of a thesis adviser, while attending brief on-campus research workshops.
