Online PhD UK – University of Nottingham – Professional Doctorate in Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery

The University of Nottingham’s Division of Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery, under its School of Clinical Science, has been recognized as a center of excellence in research; being awarded an online PhD UK research degree from the division would greatly enhance the qualifications of medical professionals wishing to focus on a particular specialization.
The online PhD UK Orthopaedic and Accident Surgery program, leading to a Doctorate in Medicine (DM) degree, is intended for licensed doctors who want to specialize in the clinical practice of surgical repair of injuries resulting from accidents. The DM award is equivalent to a PhD but is focused more on actual practice than on research.
Applicants to the online PhD UK DM program are expected to be licensed medical doctors in active practice, as well as those possessing the appropriate advanced degrees. Successful candidates are initially enrolled in a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program for research training. Early in the term, they are also required to write a supervised short essay which will be assessed by faculty to determine if remedial measures are called for before they proceed to their first year written report. DM candidates are also expected to attend brief on-campus study sessions. Once they have entered the doctorate program proper, they will undertake a research project that makes an original contribution to the field of study. The degree will be awarded only after a successful viva voce defense of the project.
The online PhD UK program is expected to be completed in four to six years, with two years allocated for the project. In exceptional cases, however, DM candidates may be able to earn the degree by submitting already-published work.
