By onlinephd |
The Open University’s Faculty of Social Sciences is one of its most prestigious colleges and consistently produces research that helps contribute to a deeper understanding of the forces that shape British society. Its six Social Services departments have consistently received excellent ratings from prestigious evaluation bodies and its faculty has been recognized as world class. It has also achieved success with its research initiatives. In 2001, for example, with the support of the Economic and Social Research Council, it successfully established a research center to examine the changing nature of British society. Many of the Faculty’s graduates have gone on to successful careers in related fields; in particular, more of the OU Psychology graduates have gone on to be recognized by the British Psychological Society than those from any other UK university.
Doctoral candidates who want to conduct research that makes a significant contribution to social policy can take an online PhD UK research degree from the OU’s Department of Social Policy and Criminology. Possible research topics should reflect the research specializations of the department, such as Children, Youth and Social Policy, Globalization and Social Welfare, Sociology of Policing and Gender, Social Identity and Welfare. While part-time doctoral students are given a variable time frame to complete their dissertation, they are normally expected to submit no more than six years from enrolling in the program.
Entry requirements for this online PhD UK program is, at the minimum, a bachelor’s degree with Upper Second Class Honours in a related subject, or its equivalent qualification, as well as a postgraduate degree in social research methods. Doctoral candidates will be required to produce a 100,000-word dissertation consisting of original research that contributes to the extension of knowledge in the subject area of the research, under the supervision of at least two internal supervisors.
