15 International PhD Scholarships from University of Adelaide Australia for 2014-15
The University of Adelaide is a public university based out of Adelaide, South Australia. Established in 1874 it is among the oldest of universities in Australia. The university was established in 1874 with the focus of research, education and learning. The goal was to better prepare youths for leadership roles based on education instead of wealth or birth. The university’s first Vice-Chancellor Dr. Augustus Short believed that the university needed to reach out and branch out into newer fields such as modern literature, art, moral philosophy, and science. It took a few more years before this vision was accomplished but in 1882 the university awarded Australia’s first degrees in science. With a rich history such as this it is no wonder that so many from around the world seek out education here and are in need of scholarships such as PhD scholarships.
Two such PhD scholarships that are available is the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship or IPRS and the Adelaide Scholarship International or ASI. The IPRS and ASI are available to international students of any country that have exemplary performance and hold First Class Honours or their countries equivalent in academics. The IPRS and ASI are intended for international students that wish to pursue a higher degree who show academic merit as well as research potential. The IPRS and ASI both provides the following:
- Payment of tuition fees for 2 years in order for the applicant to obtain a Master’s degree of Research or 3 years for doctoral research degree. Extensions are available for PhD scholarships only.
- If the awarded has a subclass 574 visa the scholarship will cover the cost of health care required for all overseas students. It will also provide policies for the students and any spouses or dependents that they may have.
- The awarded will receive an Australian Postgraduate Award of APA that grants a yearly living allowance of up to 25,392 (2014 amount) for the duration of the program.
- The scholarship will not cover visa application fees.
The goal of both of these PhD scholarships is to interest high quality international students who will enrich the research environment that the University of Adelaide wishes to convey. Both of these scholarships are highly competitive and the criteria for eligibility is strict. The conditions of eligibility include:
- The applicant must have received the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree which is a 4 year degree and been a part of a major research project.
- Applicants are awarded scholarships based on research potential and academic merit. While extracurricular activities are encouraged achievements in extracurricular events are not considered for these scholarships.
- Applicants must be enrolled in the University of Adelaide as international students and must not lose their international status the duration of the scholarship. Studies must be done at the University of Adelaide.
- Applicants must demonstrate that they reach the minimum requirements for English language proficiency or have completed an English program and must be able to show evidence of them meeting this requirement.
