Online PhD and Choosing an Accredited Canadian University
Online PhD programs can be taken on universities all around the world. However, not all schools and universities are qualified enough to provide these services. But with these universities advertising themselves as “one of the best universities”, how can we tell them apart from the really qualified universities? One way is to check the university’s reputation on the listings of schools accredited by the appointed committee on higher education. Many countries have their own committee, so check if your prospective university is qualified to teach distance PhD programs. Another way is to do an individual research on the university’s background. Check their accomplishments, awards and recognitions, and other things that can qualify them as a good university.
Accreditation Process for Online PhD Programs in Canada
If you live on Canada though, then it is somewhat hard to check if your prospective school is accredited and qualified enough to teach higher education. Fortunately, there is still a way and this is done by checking if that university is AUCC-accredited, or accredited by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. The AUCC does the verifying of the universities in the Canada, since there is no committee on higher education in Canada. They check if the universities in Canada adhere to the strict standards of education, when compared to other countries’ standard of education. Becoming accredited by the AUCC is as good as formal accreditation.
List Of Universities offering Online PhD Programs
Some of these accredited universities are the McGill University of Canada, Concordia University, Athabasca University, University of Calgary, and Télé-université. These are AUCC-accredited universities and they also offer distance PhD programs for working professionals. These universities offer various courses and in different areas of specialization. Of course, these universities have their own set of requirements before you can be admitted. Some of these requirements requires the student to have a Master’s Degree, and should have an above-average grade (B+ or higher). The other requirements can be seen by visiting our website or by contacting the university directly to have a talk with the university’s registrar personally.
It’s good to know the university’s history first before you apply or enroll, as this may influence your employability. Enrolling on an Online PhD Program to an unaccredited university will not only waste your time and money, but may also decrease your employability rate.
