By onlinephd |

Formerly known as the University of Kent at Canterbury, the University of Kent is considered a public research university founded in Kent in 1965. The university has a number of campuses in Medway and Canterbury and specialist centres in Paris, Tonbridge and Brussels. It forges strong connection to London and continental Europe. It is accepting an extensive range of qualifications and tries to judge applications based on the academic potential of the PhD students. It ranks 24th in Great Britain in terms of research, according to the Research Assessment Exercise 2008. For 2013-2014 school year, the university announces its Research Scholarships for able and deserving PhD students.

The University of Kent offers students with exceptional context for PhD study in social sciences. This helps create its great reputation and becomes the best, excellent research centres in the research areas of sociology, criminology and social policy in Great Britain. It also provides its students with workshops, methods and advanced methods training, seminar programmes, professional seminars,   writing/career workshops, study groups, and transferrable skills.

The public research university now announces its PhD scholarships such as 50th Anniversary/SSPSSR Scholarships and ESRC DTC Scholarships. These scholarships include tuition fees along with an annual stipend amounting to 13,590 pounds for yearly maintenance. They are part of the university’s 50th Anniversary in 2015, which will be given to successful students. They will be granted at the standard rate set by UK Research Council. Eligible applicants are required to demonstrate academic excellence as well as exceptional potential research.

Applicants for these PhD scholarships are required to have First or 2i Honours degree or a Master’s degree at distinction or merit in certain significant subject or its equivalent. The scholarship grants are accessible to applicants who are taking up postgraduate research. They are also open to EU, overseas and UK fee paying PhD students

The eligibility of the successful students for the study grants includes the completion of a formal application for research study in postgraduate level at the University. It is pointed out that applications for the grants can be accessed and filled out online. All scholarship applications have to be made through the university’s academic school or in the centre where they opt to study.

The current postgraduate students of the university do research into an extensive range of issues such as the third sector, cultural criminology, environmental movements, penal policy, social and cultural theory, youth transitions, intoxication and drug policy, gender and sexuality, suffering, ethnicity and identity, and work and employment.

The University of Kent stressed the necessity of making two applications: for the place where students wish to study their postgraduate degree and for the School Scholarship involving the completed application form. Filling out the application can also be filled-out electronically.

Interested PhD scholarships are noted to submit their application on January 31, 2013. This only means that qualified applicants of the scholarships are required to complete their online or electronic scholarship application before doing anything else.
