PhD Scholarships – Bournemouth University

The University of Bournemouth has earned reputation of offering a wide range of courses to the students. It is an international institution known for its courses and research programs. It has been ranked as one on the top new universities in the UK. It was also ranked among the top institutes in the Research Assessment Exercise. The PhD scholarships cover the tuition fees and the living expense of the students. In addition to this various research costs, travel allowances, conferences allowances etc. are also granted to the students. Students who wish to avail this opportunity should demonstrate outstanding academic excellence and research quality. They should have a Master’s degree or an appropriate degree with first or upper second class grades. The students are required to fill up an application form to apply for the scholarship. The students are also required to submit a research proposal which would demonstrate their potential for research at the University. The scholarship will be awarded for 36 months subjected to performance of the student each year. The last date to apply for the scholarship is 31st May 2012. The areas where the students may apply for the PhD scholarships are:
- The School of Applied Sciences
- The Business School
- The School of Design, Engineering and Computing
- The School of Health and Social Care
- The Media School
- The School of Tourism
This academic year the University of Bournemouth will be offering 44 PhD scholarships in the above mentioned academic schools. There are a number of fully funded research projects on offer in each of the above mentioned academic schools of the University. The value of the scholarship would be 14000GBP per annum together with the course fee.
Students may also apply for the Vice-Chancellor PhD scholarships. Each year the University offers 60 Vice-Chancellor scholarships to its international and domestic students. The scholarship covers only the tuition fees of the students. It will be allocated to students who are able to furnish documents which state that they are able to meet their living expense. Full-time research scholars may apply for the scholarship. It was designed to help the students with business, industry or government sponsorship. Other allowances like the conference allowance, field work allowances, etc. would be paid to the students.
Various research councils in UK also support the University through their funding opportunities for the students. International students may also apply to the various external sources of the PhD scholarships like the Commonwealth Scholarship, Fullbright Scholarships and many more. The research scholars would be engaged in research projects that will enhance the thriving research culture at the University. The University has a number of research centers focusing on special interests and gaining international recognition.
