Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program for Canadian Universities for 2014

Should you be a graduate of any undergraduate degree and plans to continue graduate study at any participating academic institution in Ontario (Canada), you will likely be considered for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program or OGS Program. The program is one of the PhD scholarships that provide about 3000 study grants to successful candidates each year. And for the incoming school year of 2014, OGS is offering another set of scholarships to PhD students who want to study PhD degrees commencing this year. The Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program is specifically designed to encourage excellence in the field of graduate studies, specifically at the doctoral and master’s levels. It is funded by the scholarship provider and the Province of Ontario. Two-thirds of the award’s total value is provided by the province, while the remaining one-third comes from the awarding university. So for the 2013-2014 academic year, approximately $30 million will be appropriated by Ontario for the program and $15 million will be the funding from the university. It is clarified that the PhD scholarships under this program are based on your academic merits. They are made available and accessible to students in almost all academic disciplines.
PhD scholarships from the Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program are awarded in different sets at specific amounts. The duration of awards for the Master’s students is up to a maximum of two years and a maximum of four years for the doctoral students and will still be subjected to an extension up to six years. Take note that each scholarship can be tenable for at least a year and up to two years. Re-application is required for those who wish to receive additional award, which is also subjected to a maximum of two and four years. For each term, the scholar may receive $5000, which could be at $10,000 for 2 consecutive terms.
To become eligible for the Ontario Graduate scholarships, you need to enroll in an institution that is authorized to offer them. Among these eligible educational institutions include the following:

- The University of Western Ontario
- University of Waterloo
- Brock University
- York University
- University of Guelph
- University of Ottawa
- Trent University
- Lakehead University
- OCAD University
- Queen’s University
- Laurentian University
- University of Windsor
- Ryerson University
- McMaster University
- Wilfrid Laurier University
- Nipissing University
- University of Toronto
- University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Interested applicants are required to connect with the Graduate Studies Office at any eligible institution. Completion of each of the OGS application is a must for those applying for over a single graduate program
The Ontario Graduate Scholarship Program organizers recently announced the changes to the awarding process of the PhD scholarships starting the school year 2013-2014, wherein the program will be administered by the eligible Ontario Institutions’ Graduate Studies Office. Although each of the participating university will be authorized to establish their own application until October, it can still vary depending on the institution.
