Online PhD UK – University of Stirling – Professional Doctorate in Education

The University of Stirling was recently acclaimed as the Scottish University of the Year by the Sunday Times, and has a wide range of part-time degree programs for busy professionals, making it the perfect place to enroll in online PhD UK courses. The online PhD UK Education (Ed.D) program is designed for education professionals who want to develop their research skills and develop their understanding of how research can inform practice and policy. Completion of the program would equip them to undertake research projects relating to the provision of educational services, whether in the private or public sector.
Applicants to the online PhD UK Ed.D program are required to hold at least a Masters in education or a related field and have three years of relevant professional experience; however, a good Honours degree from a recognized institution may also be accepted for admission into the program. The taught component of the program will require scholars to attend 2 two-day on-campus study sessions per semester, which are usually held over the weekend. This will lead to the production of a thesis which, while equivalent to a PhD dissertation, is only 50,000 to 60,000 words in length. The Ed.D will be awarded after a successful viva voce defense of the thesis, which will be judged on the quality of its original scholarship, as well how it relates academic knowledge to professional practice.
The Ed.D program is expected to take a minimum of four years to finish, part-time, with the taught component taking up the first two years. Unsuccessful doctoral candidates may exit the program with a Master of Science (MSc) award upon production and defense of a shorter thesis of 15,000 words.
