Online PhD Degree Programs – University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey

Today’s blog of online PhD Degree Programs is mainly related about an American medical university, providing distance or online PhD degree programs in Health Sciences-Nutrition Track and Clinical Nutrition. The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey was established in October 1976 that began to offer eleven certificate programs on its Newark Campus. The University’s vision for a collaborative and engaging health-related study was started by its introduction of Graduate Programs in Clinical Nutrition and Graduate Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
Along with their successful distance Graduate Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Science and Master’s of Science in Clinical Nutrition (MSCN), university is also offering PhDs in Health Sciences-Nutrition Track and Clinical Nutrition. The current distance PhD in Health Sciences-Nutrition Track has a well-established record in granting PhD Degree Programs to professionals since 2000 when it initiated a 60-credit PhD course, also incorporating 15 more credits in nutrition. Similar to the Graduate Certificate and Master’s program, this course is facilitated online.
The current list of research areas is quite wide, accepting applications from fields like dentistry and allied dental services to nursing and optometry. However you must need a master’s degree in related field with an overall GPA of 3.0 and higher. The deadline for all applications is 1st of March. You need to submit a complete admission form with required application fee, original transcripts of highest degrees, GRE scores, three professional recommendations, personal statement about research interests, current CV and current professional certificate (for some cases only). International students also need to submit their TOFEL results (550 or higher on the written English test will be acceptable).
The current admission process will take three key stages; first stage will review the applications and recommend the best candidates for an interview. Second stage will take two parts, first an interview with faculty team and later a one-to-one meeting with the future research advisor. The last stage is mainly about an admission offer, if the research advisor will be in an agreeable position to supervise. The present 60 credit course is mainly divided into five key parts; core courses (9 credits), research methods (12 credits), specializations/ electives (12-24 credits), candidacy (3 credits) and last dissertation (12-24 credits). It is important to point out that current program requires some residency; attendance on one on-campus doctoral seminar research symposium, a scholarly presentation on a pre-approved topic and the last public defense at university campus.
Apart from their well-known distance PhD in Health Sciences-Nutrition Track, in 2003, the University’s first clinical doctorate program in nutrition (51- credit program) was started also as a web-based program that focuses learners on the advanced clinical practice. The research project and clinical doctorate residency required of this program is an assurance that the University continues to assess and upgrade its health course offerings and pursues professionalism among health practitioners.
As an entry requirement, you need RD credential and a master’s degree in relevant area of research with at least GPA of 3.4. A successful candidate also needs three years of professional experience as a clinical RD. The successful applicants will be asked for an interview with faculty team. The successful candidates will start their 51 credit program on part-time bases, completing their degrees in four to five years (normally).
