The University of New Castle, Australia is now offering an online Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology program, along with other online PhD degree programs. The university was established in 1965 and currently ranks within the 10-15 range out of 38 universities in all of Australia. The public institution has more than 30,000 students, and more than 6,000 of which are undertaking postgraduate study. It is part of establishing the Innovative Research Universities in Australia (IRUA) in 2003 together with the Macquarie University, the Murdoch University, La Trobe, Griffith, and Fenders. Besides its 5 main campuses in Australia, it also has two new campuses at the PSB Academy in Singapore today.
The Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course is a professional qualification for those who wish to work as clinical psychologists and have the capability to conduct research. Thereby contributing original and significant knowledge merited in Clinical Psychology. It is the aim of the program to turn those who are undertaking such online PhD degree programs into knowledgeable, skilled, and ethical clinical practitioners. Students are taught to adhere to the model practice specified by the Australian Psychology Society.
To avail of online PhD degree programs, particularly in Clinical Psychology, applicants must hold first or second class honours degree in Psychology with accreditation from the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council; must be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychologists Registration Board of New South Wales; must be suitable to conduct doctoral level research; and must have several years of professional experience. Accepted students will take a total of 240 units covering coursework, clinical placement, and research. The program will culminate with the Doctorate Final and dissertation.
This degree program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. All applicants are required to submit a professional portfolio to the university enclosed with the application. Included will be the cover letter, a resume, and appropriate records such as university transcripts.
