Online PhD Degree Programs – California Southern University

It is appropriate that California Southern University, which specializes in online education, began life by offering traditional correspondence courses. It was established in 1978 and was certified by the California Board of Education to offer degree programs. From initially offering associate-level programs, the University eventually expanded to offer a full range of undergraduate, masters and online PhD degree programs in various academic disciplines. In the 1990s, CSU added distance courses in Law, Psychology and Business.
CSU’s online PhD degree programs include degrees in Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) and Juris Doctor (JD)..
Candidates for the DBA and PsyD online PhD degree programs must have at least a Master’s Degree or the equivalent, and require a total of 60 graduate semester credits. The course must be completed in no less than two years but not longer than ten years from the date of initial enrollment. The candidate must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to graduate.
The JD degree is designed for those who wish to become lawyers. Candidates for this degree must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a postsecondary educational institution accredited by the California Committee of Bar Examiners and submit a Personal Statement to the admissions committee discussing how their educational and work background has prepared them for the study of law and how their personal qualities will contribute to their success in pursuing their studies through distance learning. The JD degree requires 88 graduate semester units of law school coursework. JD candidates must also have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher to graduate.
